Come now, she says, and I do not reply
But steel myself to shun her siren call
As she begins to sing her lullaby
I lose my grip and slowly start to fall
Then rouse myself, relieved I have escaped
Her firm but gentle grasp, and I dismiss her
So I might be spared that little death
And make a brave display of faithfulness
To her I must obey – distrustful wife
Whose call detains me from my lover’s charms
And so persists this spouse and mistress strife
Till soon the temptress holds me in her arms
And I, from thoughtful burdens now relieved,
Succumb to bliss and vow to never leave.
